We have had a great year so far with the guest DT but we want to make it bigger and better.

The FB group gets a heads up before the blog just incase any of you lovely crafters wish to join!

We are looking for 2 permanent DT members from January 2012.

Regular creation of projects and online participation are vital requirements for this team and you would need to be computer savvy in order to assist in posting challenges

To apply send an email to c.carrott@meslyncrafts.co.uk with the following information:
• Provide a one or two paragraph biographical statement telling us a little bit about you and your crafting experiences including any publication history, design team experience, teaching experience (in stores and/or online), etc.
• Explain in one paragraph why you would be a great addition to the design team.
• Include a link to any online galleries you participate in (please include your user name and make sure that online galleries do not have a login requirement) and your blog (if you have one).
• Attach a scan or photograph of 3 paper craft projects that you feel best represent your style. Please include your name, address and email address. Confirmation emails will NOT be sent. Notifications will be made by email in September.
• Applications must be received by August 31st.

To my wonderful followers!!!

Thank you for all your support over the last few months!! For those who may not know I have sadly lost both of my beloved parents withing the last 18 months and I have really struggled to deal with it all.

My husband has been an absolute rock and kept our e-shop going when I really did want to give it all up!!!

I must also send a big thank you to Jess and Caroline!!! My wonderful permanent DT members who have looked after the blog during those times when I really needed help!!!!

And finally thank you to all the wonderful followers!!! You have been amazing and i have made good friends with some of you over the last few months!!!!!

We now have 80 followers so lets get it to 100 and they'll be huge blog candy on offer to celebrate when we get there!!!!

My friends daughter is getting married on Saturday and I've already made her wedding invites but then 2 weeks ago I got a panicky phone call when they realised that they hadn't ordered a table plan.

After much frought internet sorting and worry they asked me and this was what I came up with!!!

The theme was navy and ivory with each table have a film name and a quote from it!!!!

1st August Challenge - DT leader challenge #5

As promised here is the new challenge from me this month. There is no card from me this month because I'm away on holiday and sadly my stash had to stay at home.

This months challenge is entitled 'Oriental monochrome' which can, if you like, be given just a splash of another colour. As you will see from Jess's card she really rose to the challenge of this one!!!!

The prize for for this months challenge will be a goody bag with samples Craftwork Cards papers, card blanks and a couple of trial sized card candy mini packs (created by us.)

The theme of this months challenge is a 'Piece of Cake.'

This challenge was inspired by Dovecraft's new 'Piece of Cake' range. The colours are the most wonderful shades of pink and brown. I decided to use some of the 12 x 12 papers to cover a rather boring diary. I highlighted with 'Cotton Candy' stickles and some stickers also from the range. The joins of the paper are covered by ribbon from my stash.

The prize for this challenge is a pack of 10 scalloped card blanks and a taster pack of papers, embellishments and decoupage sheets from the 'Piece of cake' range.

Our second challenge this month is from Jess and is for a Joy Fold Card. This is a great theme and really gave the rest of us something to think about.

Seeing as its fathers day this month and I couldn't wait to use this Changito Stamp I got a while ago, I thought I could combine it with this month's mid month challenge.

I made a square joy fold card, and there are other tutorials on you tube and craft sites / forums, but I have done another so the card fits nicely into a standard square envelope and the diamond shape fits nicely too.

The diamond shape as a topper makes in quiet interesting and still allows the closure thing ton work well.

The sentiment closure is optional, you dont need to add it but its nice to tuck the smaller folded shape into the base flap so it doesnt fall open!

Joy Fold Card Tutorial

Here's how it all came together..

Cut two pieces of card as follows and score as follows:

for the base card size is 7.75'' x 5.5'' then score at 5.5''

for the inner piece card size is 7'' x 3.5'' then score at 3.5''

you should end up with this:

SO, the larger / base piece is basically a square with a flap, the square measures 5.5'' x5.5'' and the flap will measure 2.25'' x 5.5'' and the flap folds over and covers HALF the size of the square base ...the inner piece folds exactly in half and measures 3.5'' x 3.5''

and this what they look like together

Decorate the outer and inner flaps as much or as little as you like. this is the view of the insides of the inner and outer flaps - I left one side white for a message / sentiment on the inner flap and inked only the edges of the white side

to finish: glue the inside flap down onto the square paper covered base, taking care to make sure that you place it centrally, equally spaced between the sides.

add your topper to the outside of the inner flap (you can add this on in a diamond shape or if you would like it square on or want to stamp on your inner flap, thats an option too!) here is a close up of how the closure works -

make sure that before you stick your embellishment or sentiment down that its easy to tuck the inner flap in and pull it out again - I used good thick foam pads for this and played around with it before sticking it down permanently.

Well hello everyone it is finally here, our first OFFICIAL CHALLENGE

What have you been up to this half term???

Me?? Well I've been waiting in for deliveries!!! This morning a stack of goodies from Crafts Uk arrived so there will be some fabulous new decoupages available soon on our website.

Hope fully by the end of the week we should have card candy, papers and embellishments from Craftwork Cards and a sellection of Nellie Snellen of diecutters and punches plus a selection of ........

..... Promarker multipacks!!!!!!!!!

So I had a look through my personal stash and came up with these cards as a way of keeping me busy while I wait for the delivery men!!!!! I did make a couple of others but I can't post them yet as i've entered them into forum competitions so we'll just have to wait and see!!!!

Sadly I've had to postpone the first official challenge until the 30th May. We have been so busy with the new website and everything was going swimmingly until my daughter was struck down with the dreaded chicken pox. So everything has had to go on hold.

With the launch of the new website we at Meslyn Crafts decided to set up a challenge blog and are looking for 2 or 3 new DT members to join me. The DT call will run for 3 weeks, so there is plenty of time to get your applications in to us.
We would like you to email us 4 of your best pieces of work and tell us a little about yourself and why you should be considered for a place on the DT.
There are no real rules for you but what we would like you to do is (although there are always exceptions to the rule:

Have a blog and post regularly.
Produce cards of a high standard.
Be able to take good clear photos of your stunning projects
To make at least one card or project per month
To host a challenge on a rota basis

So if you know you have what it takes then we would be delighted to hear from you. We will be accepting submissions until midnight on Thursday 29th April 2010, so what are you waiting for? Good luck!
